Identify and plan an arts challenge

Before I Entered into doing Arts Award my refection of my own stills were that as a strength I was able to illustrate. I've always enjoyed illustrating animals, backgrounds, plants, and anything fantasy or dark themed. When joining Art's Award I decided that I would test myself and try to tackle one of my weaknesses but also target my strengths to help myself progress. One of the main weaknesses of this task would be the form of animating objects. In the past I've tried and indeed failed at trying to animate either a flower, or a background scene. Therefore for this task I've decided to try an animate an object such as a propaganda poster which will flap in the wind and then fly off the wall onto the ground. Along side this I have also decided to try and improve my skills of animation by creating a town which will go from dawn to dusk and because the theme of the whole project is based on WWI and Prees Heath Camp, which was one of the first WWI towns to have electricity.

I plan to meet my challenge by firstly starting to sketch out the town on a digital program called Paint Tools Sai or Photoshop and then from this base sketch I will start to sketch on different colours and then different effects such as the glowing lights. Therefore from this idea of being the first town with electricity, in my animation of the town I will add small lights to each window and have them flicker to add effect and give me the ability to make a proper animation, which will probably last for about one to two seconds. From this I will try to perfect each part of the animation and then make each frame transition the best I can.

Review Arts Events

The particular arts event which I participated in was the live performance of Frankenstein Staring Benedict Cumberbatch and Johnny Lee Miller. All together I thought it was an electrifying stage performance showing the creativity and art behind this specific adaptation of Frankenstein.

From start to finished we see the world from the creatures point of view and get a sense of how he felt and how he reacted to curtain situations, from being made right at the start of the play and then to the point where he and Frankenstein made their way into the darkness were we expect that they died together. Throughout the play we see how the monster only wanted to be accept and how he travelled around, trying to find someone who would be nice to him and teach him new things, which turned out to be an old blind man. From this the old man taught the monster literature and from this the monster made his way to find Frankenstein and ask him why he created him. After finding Frankenstein and killing his younger brother, Frankenstein realizes that the creature he created is intelligent, and he has indeed created life, effectively playing the 'god role'. From this moment Frankenstein is begged to create a female version of the monster, so that it allows him to experience love, and lust. Leaving his home and going into hiding to create a female monster, once completed he shows his newly made creation to his original monster. Shouting and screaming at each other for about twenty minutes he ended up slaughtering his female monster creation and then running off into the night, going back home to his wife. 
Once he is married he realizes that his original created monster is out to kill him, and he turns up at his house in attempt to do so, but by being shown affection and kindness by Frankenstein's wife he ends up raping her and killing her just to feel love. After such Frankenstein makes it his dying wish to kill what he created. Travelling into the mountains Frankenstein became reliant on his monster to keep him alive and give him a purpose to live, while this was the same for the monster. For the monster Frankenstein was he only thing keeping him alive as well, so in the end, they both needed each other to survive.

Though I've never seen anything like this before although I would definitely love to go see something like it again, and even go to see Frankenstein again in the future, if it's broadcast in cinemas again.

In my opening I though that the performance was amazing and I loved every single moment of it, the music and use of elements on the stage were amazing. Seeing fire on the stage and also seeing it rain, and indeed watching the stage collapse into itself and some parts go underground was amazing. Watching how everyone leapt around the stage and how the acting was superb was an electric experience which I'd happily see again.
What wasn't so good was the extended opening scene where the monster was created. When he was crawling around the stage and leaning how to move it walk, it seemed to almost drag on a bit and it generally seemed too long, although that was the only bad thing about the performance.
I'd recommend it to anyone even if they believed they wouldn't enjoy it, since I wasn't looking forward to watching the performance I still greatly enjoyed it, and this is why I recommend it, even if people only give it a chance.

Identify Leadership role an plan the project's aim.

A leader is someone who takes control in a specific situation to lead someone else or a group of people or animals. I believe as a good leader you need to kind, considerate but also strong willed and determined to what the job you were set without failure. During this project I hope to work on my leadership skills by helping my fellow group members to get the best possible work shop we could archive, and be able to entice members of the general public to be interested in doing a short workshop about 2D animation.

The type of event I might organise with my team is an exhibit and a taster lesson for the public. Through this I would be helping with the hand drawn flip-note animation process and photography. As a team an adviser helped with health and safety, child protection and other legal requirements. As a team my role would be helping the general public to create a small second long animation where by you'd be able to see the transition from each stage taken to properly create a 2D animation.

Plan the Practical Issues
To completely start my teams project I thought about what the specific audience would need to be able to participate in such an event. The types of resources we'd need as a team would be; I-pads ( to take photographs ), Pencils, Pens, Paper, and Light box's / boards. As for promotion for the event we'd be creating, would be asking family members and friend to come and participate in the event, we'd also be doing this event in a public place on a Saturday morning so that if anyone whom stumbled across us could easily take part. We'd be recording our progress to keep track of how we've improved and how we, as a team we could also improve our skills even more in future events.

As for health and safety, we didn't need much consideration towards what we needed to do in order to keep our work area safe. Due to the fact we had one person from our team on each station making sure that no one would get hurt. There was no need to consider budget because we already had the equipment we needed to complete the task. As for promoting the project all our team members asked our families and friends to come take part in our short presentation and workshop of how to create a short 2D animation. For advice and support we could go to our advisers whom had been supervising us throughout the whole day, along with keeping an eye on our event.

Delivering The Project - Working effectively with others.

Working together in a team worked very well, and once we'd completed our work our whole team was given feedback. 

This is the feedback I received;

" Keavey planned a hand-drawn stop-motion event to take place at Wem Town Hall on the 15th of November. She set up Light-boxes in the gallery and invited people to have a go at hand drawn animation. Keavey was enthusiastic and engaging – capturing the children’s attention. " This was given by a man called Sam, and was sent over an email.

Review the project and leadership role

On my teams project we created a work shop for the public to experience the processes of creating an 2D animation. Or end result was that a few younger members of the public joined in and created a red ball bouncing up and down, and a acrobat walking across the page. What went well the best was that once the people whom had already been involved in our workshop had finished they wanted to continue drawing and making more short animations. Our project didn't really end up changing from our original plan, we'd pet up hand drawing stations as we'd planned and then allowed interested people to create their own short animations, which we captured on the I-pads and animated so that they could see properly how it would move across the screen.

I believe I developed as a leader because I helped my team mates when they knew not what to do, and when we needed more people to partake in our project. The feedback from those whom watched and those who took part were overall very good, and from the evidence we collected from either e-mails or from our surveys it was evident that those whom were present would enjoy being involved in more animating.

From what I've learnt from the feedback I was given was that my whole teams worked very well and effectively to archive the desired result, and that also I was able to complete the goals I'd set for myself.

What I've learn from this experience is that I can work effectively in a team and help my team mates when they needed the assistance. I also learnt that my communicating skills needs to be worked on, as it took some time to initially pick up the courage to ask people if they'd be interested to take part in my groups project.

Things that I would do differently next time would be trying to elongate the time which we had our work shop open for and hopefully draw more members of the public to take part in our animating workshop.
